Criterion-Built System Makes Voter Registration Easier For US Military Personnel, Their Families, and American Citizens Overseas
On July 23rd, the Federal Voting Assistance Program (FVAP) announced their new website, featuring an automated Voter Registration/Ballot Delivery capability built by Criterion Systems of Vienna, Virginia.  For the first time, voters overseas have greater access to timely and accurate absentee voting information and an electronic alternative to the registration by mail process.

Criterion Systems Named a Finalist for 2008 Contractor of the Year Award
Thirty-three Washington-area government contracting industry firms and executives have been chosen by their peers as finalists for the 6th Annual Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards-an awards program some have dubbed the "Academy Awards of government contracting." The awards recognize the innovation, dedication, and commitment to excellence of the people and businesses in the region's government contracting community. The winners will be announced at a gala dinner on October 7th at the Ritz-Carlton in Tysons Corner, VA.

Awards will be presented to contractors at four revenue levels; executives at three revenue levels; and to public sector partners whose achievements are exceptionally distinguished. The Greater Washington Government Contractor Awards are presented in partnership by the Chamber's Northern Virginia GovCon Council, the Professional Services Council and Washington Technology.

Criterion Named Finalist for NVTC Hottest Management Team
Criterion was named a finalist for the 2008 Northern Virginia Technology Council NVTC), Hottest Awards in the category of Hottest Management Team.  Criterion,  one of the fastest growing high end technology companies in the region, has a Management Team that includes the former CIO’s of the CIA, the Army, and the U.S. Senate, three Ph.D.’s, former members of the Senior Executive Service and four former CEO’s.

NVTC is the largest technology council in the nation, last night announced the finalists and winners of its seventh annual Hot Ticket Awards, recognizing local entrepreneurs and entrepreneurial companies for achievements that make them "hot" – great vision, superior ability to implement and deliver, innovative management approaches, and overall success. The award ceremony was attended by more than 450 Capital region technology entrepreneurs, business leaders, media and special guests.

GSA Contract Award
The General Services Administration (GSA) Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO) awarded Criterion a Time and Materials contract to provide FISMA Services and Support to:

  • Review and document each OCFO application which provides data and require identity management and access control identifying needed improvements as well as observed deficiencies and their risks.
  • Identify requirements and develop alternative solutions for annual application access recertification.
  • Evaluate and recommend a best value solution or solutions using business case analysis methodologies such as Return on Security Investment (ROSI); and 
  • Develop an implementation plan and then assist GSA-OCFO with the implementation of the solution or solutions.

Dr. J. Greg Hanson Named Executive Vice President
We are pleased to announce that Dr. J. Greg Hanson has joined Criterion Systems as Executive Vice President, Defense & Homeland Security. Prior to joining Criterion, Dr. Hanson served as Chief Information Officer for the United States Senate where he was responsible for the technology vision and strategy for the Senate. He previously served as the CTO for two major technology companies and had a distinguished career in the United States Air Force. Dr. Hanson will contribute to all aspects of strategic decision making for Criterion, and focus on innovative technology solutions for key Government customers.

December 5, 2007 Dr. Joseph Williamson Joins Criterion
Dr. Joseph “Joe” Williamson has joined Criterion Systems as Director of Enterprise Architecture Solutions. A former EDS Fellow, Dr. Williamson was with EDS for 13 years and most recently served as Chief Technology Executive for U.S. Hub Operations. In his new capacity Joe will be developing information and communications technology, enterprise architectures, strategies, and bringing fresh innovation to rapid technology evolution.

October 15, 2007 Criterion Wins Federal Voting Administration Program Award
Criterion has been awarded the Federal Voter Assistance Program (FVAP). This program allows all those serving in the Armed Forces around the world to register online for voting in their home state. We expect to support the 2008 presidential primary races.
October 10, 2007 Promod Sharma Receives Award
Criterion President & CEO, Promod Sharma, has been honored with this year’s Pride of India Gold Award by the NRI Institute of India. The award recognizes people of Indian origin for outstanding achievements in their chosen fields and for public service contributions toward the economic development of India and their country of residence. Sharma was one of 24 people selected out of hundreds of nominations the Institute received this year.
September 21, 2007 Promod Sharma Participates in United Nations Peace Conference on Behalf of Charity
Network International

Criterion President and CEO, Promod Sharma, participated in a press conference at the United
Nations in New York announcing the upcoming World Peace 4 Children Tour. The World Peace
4 Children Tour is a series of concerts, to be held worldwide, benefitting Charity Network
International (CNI). CNI is an international humanitarian organization that works to prevent the
trafficking of children. Also participating in the press conference were international recording
artist and human rights activist, Wolfgang Hildebrandt, and Charity Network Inc., COO, Lavika

August 10, 2007 Criterion Reaches Unique Agreement with Leading Search Companies
Criterion has completed a unique deal with both FAST Search & Transfer and Convera. The
agreement includes the following for Criterion: twenty one new contracts; the creation of a new
twelve person cleared search technology team; acquisition of a new center in Columbia, MD,
creation of a search and retrieval laboratory in our corporate location, a full partnership with
FAST on accounts in five major sectors including government and commercial; and ownership
of the leading search product, RetreivalWare, used in the classified community. “FAST has
quickly become a major partner of ours, and we have created an excellent working relationship
with them, as they move into the government market and expand their commercial American
client base,” said David Coxe, Senior Vice President & Corporate Development Officer. He
added, “This is a major leap for Criterion, moving us to a leadership position among enterprise
service providers to the rapidly growing search and retrieval industry. And, it further solidifies
Criterion at the leading edge of emerging information sharing and knowledge-based solutions.”
June 22, 2007 Don Goff, PhD, Named Vice President, Information Assurance & Training
We are pleased to announce that Dr. Don Goff has joined Criterion as Vice President,
Information Assurance & Training. Dr. Goff was the developer of the Security Studies
Laboratory at the University of Maryland University College, designated a Center of Excellence
by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security. Don is highly
respected as an advisor, consultant, educator, and business leader. He retired from AT&T and
the U.S. Army Reserve.
June 15, 2007 Marjorie Windelberg, PhD, Joins Criterion
Dr. Marjorie Windelberg has joined Criterion as the Program Manager for the ‘National Do Not
Call Registry’ Program. The Federal Trade Commission’s NO CALL Program is noted as being
one of the government’s most successful public programs, and is currently beginning a
significant upgrade which Marjorie will lead. Among many other accomplishments, Marjorie led
the original development and rollout of the National Do Not Call Registry.
June 14, 2007 Criterion Federal Civilian Win
Criterion has won a long-term prime contract to provide direct support to the Chief Information
Security Officer for the General Services Administration. This win demonstrates the strong
capabilities of our civilian government business unit as a vital part of the company.
April 26, 2007 Scott Semple Named Executive Vice President, Strategic Solutions Group
We are pleased to announce that Scott Semple has joined Criterion. As a member of the
executive team he will lead our Strategic Solutions Business Unit. This practice will focus on
the convergence of Physical and Information Technology Security, specialized security
assessments and training, and our emerging identity management activities. Scott has a long
and distinguished career in both the commercial and government arenas.
December, 2006 Criterion Acquires NetStar Systems
We are pleased to announce that Criterion has acquired NetStar Systems. NetStar is noted for
its outstanding technical credentials, including a leadership position in database services.
Additionally, their customer base complements those of Criterion with major presences in the
Office of Naval Intelligence and the Defense Intelligence Agency. This acquisition further
enhances our ability to take advantage of emerging opportunities and offer additional delivery
capabilities.
October, 2006 Criterion Executives Present at The Industrial College of the Armed Forces
The Industrial College of the Armed Forces, located in Washington, DC. invited Criterion to lead
a session on the growth of technology in the defense industry. The College brings the most
select senior military officers into an environment to study industry and its impact on the
Department of Defense. Selection to the College is one of the highest non-combatant
assignments that a military officer can receive. Criterion was honored to be selected to present
to the College. Criterion CIO, Bob Coxe, is a former professor at the College.
September, 2006 Criterion Partners with Siemens
An agreement was signed making Criterion a protégé company of Siemens Corporation.
Our Mentor-Protégé agreement allows us to team with Seimens to provide IT services to
companies across the government and commercial sectors. This agreement provides value to
Criterion by increasing our business opportunities and by creating synergies between our two
