Vienna, VA, January 10, 2012 – Criterion Systems has been awarded a Systems Development and Integration Next Generation for Small Businesses (SDI – NG) contract by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO). In addition to the prime indefinite delivery, indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract, Criterion received six initial task orders to provide Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and software engineering services in support of USPTO systems.

“SDI – NG is an important win for Criterion and we appreciate the confidence that USPTO has in our work as illustrated by IDIQ and task order awards. As a result of the initial task orders, the Criterion team now has 22 people supporting many of the systems that are critical to USPTO’s mission of fostering our nation’s industrial and technical progress through the system of patents and trademarks,” said Promod Sharma, President and CEO of Criterion.

Criterion’s team is comprised of Avaya Government Solutions, Pretek Corporation, Project Performance Corporation (PPC), and ThrivOn Management Consulting LLC. Under the SDI – NG contract, Team Criterion will provide a wide variety of software development and systems engineering services in support of the systems required to examine patent and trademark applications, issue patents and register trademarks, and disseminate patent and trademark information to the public.

“Our team members will be part of integrated teams that provide the most qualified and talented support for each USPTO SDI – NG task order. Several of our team members have been supporting USPTO systems for nearly a decade and this experience will be invaluable in helping meet our customer’s current and future software development processes and systems requirements. Criterion continues our focus on hiring employees with the relevant IT experience and program knowledge who share our commitment to delivering high-quality services in support of the USPTO mission,” continued Sharma.

Criterion is one of five companies awarded a prime IDIQ contract under the SDI – NG program. The total potential value of the SDI – NG contract vehicles is $200 million over five years if all options are exercised.

Dr. J. Greg Hanson, Criterion Systems’ Chief Operating Officer (COO), is speaking at the Government Big Data Forum 2011. Dr. Hanson will participate in the panel, ‘Sensemaking in an Age of Overwhelming Data’ scheduled for Wednesday, January 26th at 1:00 p.m. at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.

He will join government and industry executives to discuss the steps federal agencies should take to rapidly make sense of increasing amounts of data, leading to better government-wide decision-making.

Dr. Hanson brings a unique perspective to these challenges garnered from his experience at the Senate and his tenures with the Air Force, NATO and industry. While at Criterion, he was instrumental in developing the approach – currently used in intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) programs – that integrates fusion and analysis applications on a miniature, high performance computer to provide near-real-time processing of multiple data streams from individual sensors.

To help organizations deal with the challenges resulting from the exponential growth in the amount of ISR data captured, Dr. Hanson’s team is delivering a new approach to Big Data warehousing – BigBrainTM, a multi-petabyte storage solution that delivers the economics of public cloud storage behind the firewall.

Prior to joining Criterion, Dr. Hanson served as CIO for the U.S. Senate where he was responsible for the technology vision and strategy. He also held CTO positions at Universal Systems & Technology (UNITECH) and Telos Corporation, a $200M international technology company serving private and government markets. As Chief Software Engineer for the U.S. Air Force, Dr. Hanson developed global software policies and led the agency’s Y2K program. He also served as Chief Scientist at NATO’s Central Region Headquarters. Dr. Hanson earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Central Florida, a master’s of science degree in information systems from the U.S. Air Force Institute of Technology, and a bachelor of science from the U.S. Air Force Academy. He is also an adjunct full professor, teaching graduate computer science courses for the University of Maryland University College.

The Government Big Data Forum will take place January 26, 2011 at the Mayflower Renaissance Hotel in Washington, D.C.

Former U.S. Senate CIO to Discuss Innovations that Deliver Real-Time Information to the Edge

Vienna, VA, August 24, 2010 – Dr. J. Greg Hanson, Criterion Systems’ Chief Operating Officer (COO), is speaking at the Air Force Information Technology Conference (AFITC) in Montgomery, Ala. Dr. Hanson’s seminar, ‘ISR Fusion Architecture: Delivering Real-Time Information at the Operational Edge’ is scheduled for Monday, August 30th at 12:30 p.m. in Room RR6.

During his seminar, Dr. Hanson will detail an approach that integrates fusion and analysis applications on a miniature, high performance computer to provide near-real-time processing of multiple data streams from individual sensors.

Dr. Hanson brings nearly 32 years of technology leadership experience to Criterion Systems, a systems integrator providing innovative, technology-enabled business solutions to government agencies. As COO, he leads the teams designing and supporting mission-critical systems for the Department of Defense (DoD), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Intelligence Community and federal civilian agencies.

He also serves as Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at sister company, Criterion HPS. Criterion HPS delivers optimized solution servers that are designed for the ‘edge of the cloud’ environments where power, space, and cooling are important.

“Historically ISR capabilities have been hindered by lack of compute power and excessive weight,” said Hanson. “A new generation of multi-sensor high performance computing solutions designed specifically for aerial operations and reconnaissance are eliminating the trade-offs between performance and weight. Deploying ISR Fusion to the edge is a breakthrough capability that provides access to real-time data from multiple sensors, enhancing situational awareness and improving mission outcome – this is a powerful tool for our troops engaged in combat.”

Prior to joining Criterion, Dr. Hanson served as CIO for the U.S. Senate where he was responsible for the technology vision and strategy. He is a respected international lecturer and author, and the recipient of numerous awards for leadership and professional excellence including two FED 100 Awards and an AFFIRM Leadership Award.

The Air Force Information Technology Conference will take place August 30 – September 2 at the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel & Spa located in Montgomery, Ala.
